According to the statement, the appointment was made during elections of the members of nine subsidiary bodies of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).
As a member of the PBC, Colombia will support efforts by Member States, as well as by agencies and mechanisms of the organization, to sustain and consolidate peace in countries in conflict or going through post-conflict situations.
Colombia’s PBC membership reaffirms the country’s commitment to diplomacy for peace and life, as part of which the protection of human rights and the dignity of people constitute a fundamental priority, said the Foreign Ministry’s note.
The country’s new membership strengthens its position in various multilateral instances, as advocate of a new vision in addressing current challenges in an inclusive and peaceful manner, highlighting dialogue as the main instrument for conflict resolution.
