Vietnam and Venezuela commemorate 35 years of diplomatic relations

Hanoi, Dec 18 (Prensa Latina) Vietnam and Venezuela commemorated the establishment of their diplomatic relations 35 years ago.

According to Venezuelan ambassador Juan Carlos Fernandes, the celebration occurs when, bilateral ties are “excellent and fruitful” and are supported by the more than 60 cooperation instruments signed between both nations.

This time, the anniversary coincided with the tenth Political Consultation between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries in Hanoi, in which both parties agreed that there is still room to expand collaboration in the future.

The meeting also allowed the discussion of orientations and solutions to promote cooperation, especially in trade, oil and gas, agriculture, telecommunications, and construction, as well as popular exchange and links between localities. It was also agreed to organize the 4th Meeting of the Vietnam-Venezuela Intergovernmental Committee to coordinate the effective materialization of the agreements reached recently, and accelerate the negotiations of other agreements in order to create a favorable legal framework for bilateral assistance.

During an event held on Tuesday to commemorate the anniversary, Venezuelan Deputy Foreign Minister Tatiana Pugh highlighted that the year 2024 will be significant due to the upcoming meeting between Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh. This meeting is scheduled to take place within the framework of the BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia.

Pugh praised the smooth exchange of high-level delegations this year and highlighted the official visits of Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang to Caracas last April; Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yván Gil Pinto to Hanoi in June, and Executive Vice President Delcy Rodríguez’s trip de Hanoi in October.

During Luu Quang’s visit to Venezuela, new energy cooperation agreements were signed between the state-owned Petróleos de Venezuela (PDVSA) and the Vietnamese oil and gas company PetroVietnam to strengthen the capacities of commercialization and distribution of crude oil and gas between both countries. They also agreed to work on a large-scale petrochemical plant, construct a new glass plant in Venezuela, and adopt a comprehensive work plan for production, training, research, technical-scientific, and technological support in the agricultural sector.
