Cuban residents in the Dominican Republic to seek greater unity

Santo Domingo, Dec 14 (Prensa Latina) The Máximo Gómez Association of Cuban residents in the Dominican Republic is holding its 12th National Meeting on Saturday, an occasion to announce future actions to strengthen its ties with the homeland.

A press release from the Cuban Embassy in the Dominican Republic indicated that during the event, participants will review the activities developed this year, fundamentally those related to the fight against the United States blockade against Cuba and for the country’s exclusion from Washington’s unilateral State Sponsors of Terrorism (SSOT) list.

“The event will multiply solidarity, love and respect for our country and the inexorable commitment to defending its sovereignty and independence,” the statement added.

Recently, the Máximo Gómez Association of Cuban residents expressed its solidarity with the Cuban people in the face of the energy emergency and the effects of the hurricanes that affected the eastern and western regions, causing considerable material damage.

Its call for the immediate end of the US blockade is permanent, as is its demand for the elimination of Cuba from Washington’s SSOT list.

Cuba and the Dominican Republic held the 13th Round of Migration Talks in this capital in September, when they reaffirmed the will to strengthen bilateral cooperation to guarantee a regular flow of travelers.

On that occasion, the Cuban delegation, headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Elio Rodríguez Perdomo, met with members of the Cuban community, an expression of the continuous strengthening of relations between Cuba and its nationals abroad.

During the meeting, Cuban residents spoke about support for their country of origin in sports, culture and development plans, depending on the sector in which they operate in this Caribbean nation.
