The government and the Presidential Transitional Council removed from office Jean Emmanuel Casséus, who was replaced by Romial Petit, who will take the reins of the agency together with the deputy director, Alfred Pierre, reported Le Facteur Haiti.
DGI workers began a strike in September, which was interrupted for a truce to help the population carry out the most diverse procedures.
Carlo Joseph, one of the protesters, said the demands of the employees were not taken into account and, therefore, the strike would continue until the appointment of a new director general was published.
During the talks, it was agreed to grant them a bonus of 50 thousand gourdes (US$378.78) each quarter and an amount of 25 thousand gourdes (US$189.39) each month on the debit card of a fund provided for in the DGI budget.
Protagonists of the work stoppage maintained their firm demands focused on a salary adjustment, the granting of the debit card, training for future civil servants, medical insurance and the dismissal of the DGI’s top official.
