During a meeting with the Senate’s National Defense and Security Committee, the Minister reaffirmed the commitment to safeguard the country, the daily Al Ahram quoted.
The meeting aimed to strengthen cooperation between the Committee and the Ministry on security issues, highlighting that the dialogue focused “on current developments and the challenges facing Egypt’s national security amid the evolution of international and regional dynamics.”
On repeated occasions, the Egyptian authorities denounced the Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip and southern Lebanon, while demanding that the international community impose sanctions against the government of Benjamin Netanyahu.
This week, Egypt also denounced Israel’s campaign against Syria following the overthrow of President Bashar al-Assad. Israeli forces occupied large areas of southern Syria and destroyed almost all of Syria’s military infrastructure in a major air raid.
Although Egypt and Israel signed a peace agreement in 1979, bilateral relations have deteriorated in the past year following the campaign against Gaza, where more than 44,000 people have been reported killed and 105,000 wounded.
