Nicaragua: 96.6 percent of youngsters say Government gives them hope

Managua, Dec 11 (Prensa Latina) A 96.6 percent of young Nicaraguans consider the Government headed by President Daniel Ortega generates hope, according to a polling released Wednesday by the firm M&R Consultores.

The public opinion study entitled “Nicaraguans: Youth Worldview”, confirms this perception among teenagers and young people in connection with different areas of the country’s economic, political and social life.

The survey showed that 82.8 percent of the youngsters interviewed approve the Government’s performance, while 78.7 percent of teenagers consider so.

Likewise, same group (77 percent) approved the work done by Vice President Rosario Murillo, while 4.5 disapproved.

According to the survey, 81 percent of young people also approved the work of the vice president from 2017 to date.

Regarding the desire to emigrate, the study indicated that the economic stability the country has witnessed for several years has translated in only 19.3 percent of adolescents interviewed wishing to leave Nicaragua, while a mere 13.5 of youngsters are harboring such desire.

On the other hand, 85.2 and 85.4 percent of each surveyed group are satisfied with Nicaraguan democracy.

As for citizen security, 78.3 percent of adolescents and 71.3 percent of young people said that there is greater security today, while 2.9 percent of the first group and 4.2 percent of the second considered that the country is less secured now.

Political analyst Xavier Díaz-Lacayo pointed out that beyond the younger generation’s tendency to look inward, into their individualities, the survey still reveals a collective identity.

“And this collective identity reveals the advantages young people find in today’s Nicaragua, where history has been approached with sincerity, honor and patriotism, by favoring a national identity,” he said.

Díaz-Lacayo considers young people currently cherished peace, stability and the promotion of development as the bases for staying in their country, which in turn reduces emigration and makes them discard the speculative thinking that could destabilize their minds.
