Russia close to achieving goals in Ukraine: foreign intelligence

Moscow, Dec 10 (Prensa Latina) Russia is close to achieving the goals of the special military operation in Ukraine, said the director of the Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR, for its acronym in Russian), Sergei Narishkin.

“On the front, the situation is not in favor of Kiev, the strategic initiative is held by Russia, and it is close to achieving the proposed objectives, while the Ukrainian Armed Forces are on the verge of collapse and the government of Vladimir Zelensky has lost all legitimacy,” said Narishkin in an interview with the Russian magazine Razvedchik.

He added that the United States is losing the initiative on all fronts and is failing in the post-Soviet space. “The American obsession with Ukraine is beginning to exert a destructive influence on the global financial and military-political system created by Washington. Analysis of data held by the SVR allows us to conclude that the post-Soviet space remains a priority for attacks by the American and British secret services,” said Naryshkin, adding that the West has set itself the ambitious goal of breaking, not only the economic and political ties that unite the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), but also their deepest historical and humanitarian ties.

“This approach stems from the well-known Anglo-Saxon maxim: whoever rules Eurasia rules the world. But for them, to rule means to divide and sow chaos, and this is demonstrated by the case of Ukraine,” said the head of the SVR.

Naryshkin also called attempts to provoke destabilization in Russia unsuccessful. “People are aware that we are fighting against the collective West, not against the Kyiv junta, and the price of this confrontation is our freedom and sovereignty,” he stressed.

The head of the SVR expressed the certainty that “further escalation, instead of causing the erosion of Russia as Washington and London hope, will bring about the strategic defeat of the West itself. Despite sanctions and the theft of our sovereign assets, Russia’s economy is growing, replacing imports at an accelerated pace, particularly in high-tech sectors, creating new logistics chains and fostering economic ties with non-Western countries, above all, in Eurasia,” he stressed.
