Cuba-Caricom celebrate 52 years of friendship and solidarity

Havana, Dec 8 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodriguez, has praised the friendship linking his country with the Caribbean Community (Caricom), on the 52nd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties.

In his profile on X, the island’s top diplomat saluted Cuba-Caricom Day, recalling the year of 1972, when Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica and Trinidad Tobago formalized diplomatic relations with Cuba.

“We celebrate Cuba-CARICOM Day, on the 52nd anniversary of Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago establishing diplomatic relations with our country.

We recognize the friendship that unites us with the members of @CARICOMorg, whom we thank for their historic support and solidarity,’ Rodriguez wrote on the social network.

On the occasion, President Miguel Díaz-Canel received last Friday the 14 ambassadors of the countries that make up Caricom at the Palace of the Revolution (Seat of government).

“We met here to hug each other”, said the Head of State, who highlighted the bonds of brotherhood with those nations which, led by the aforementioned, decided 52 years ago to break the diplomatic isolation imposed by the US Government on Cuba since the early 1960s.

This fact demonstrates the deep bonds of brotherhood that unite us, and the continuity of the ideology and work by our historic leaders, who forged the bases for the consolidation of our relations, framed in principles of solidarity, friendship, selflessness and gratitude, said the Cuban leader.
