Italy reports more Covid-19 related cases and less deaths

Rome, Dec 8 (Prensa Latina) From November 28 to December 4, 2024, Italy reported a 15 percent increase in cases of Covid-19, compared to the previous week, after recording 2,440 infected patients, according to a report published Sunday.

A release from the Health Ministry here quotes the latest assessment as recording 46 Covid-19 related deaths, a 2.1 percent month-on-month drop.

Over this period, over 56,400 SARS-CoV-2 tests were conducted, with a positivity rate of 4.3 percent, a quantitative reduction compared to the 56,400 tests carried out between November 21 and 27, when the rate was 3.6 percentage points lower.

The Covid virus variant currently prevailing in Italy is Xec, the document stresses, adding that ‘preliminary data for November 2024 highlight the co-circulation of different subvariants of JN.1 receiving international attention’. The latest figures provided by this health institution show that 216,762 people are currently positive to Covid-19, of whom 215,416 are isolated at home, while 1,292 have been admitted to general hospital wards and 54 are in intensive care.

From January 30, 2020 to December 4 of this year, a total of 26,955,933 infections with the SARS-CoV-2 virus were detected in Italy, and 26,540,680 infected persons were cured, while 198,491 died as a result of the disease, the source adds.
