In a post on X on Thursday, Lazo, who also presides over the Cuban Council of State, described the voting as a recognition to Cuba’s moves to strengthen regional parliamentary diplomacy and its traditional contribution to this organization.
Lazo also hailed other members of the new board of directors of PARLATINO.
Gonzalez Patricio was elected by acclamation as new chair of PARLATINO’s Board of Directors for the 2024-2026 term, by the 38th Ordinary and Commemorative Assembly of the 60th Anniversary of the Organization, held in Panama.
The new PARLATINO Board of Directors also consists of lawmakers Carlos Núñez Salina (Paraguay) as Vice President; Juan Martin Rodriguez (Uruguay) as Secretary General; Melina Ajoy Palma (Costa Rica) as Vice Secretary General; and Nancy Sanchez Arrendondo (Mexico) as Secretary of Commissions.
Included in the roster are also Congressman Didiano Pinilla (Panama), as Deputy Secretary of the Committees; Congresswoman Maria del Carmen Alva Prieto (Peru), as Secretary for Interinstitutional Relations; and Congressman Alfredo Pacheco (Dominican Republic), as Secretary for Interparliamentary Relations.
