Santiago pays homage to Fidel Castro (+Photos)

Santiago, Cuba, Dec 4 (Prensa Latina) Cubans in this eastern city on Wednesday paid tribute to the historic leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, by placing a floral wreath before the monolith housing his ashes.

Eight years after his passing, today’s ceremony at the Santa Ifigenia Cemetery was chaired by Beatriz Johnson, first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) in the province, Manuel Falcón, Santiago’s Governor, and local top-rank officers of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR) and the Ministry of the Interior (MININT).

AS a symbol of peace and purity, white flowers were laid before the monument, the only tomb in the cemetery with no epitaph, date of birth or death, as the Commander in Chief is considered to inhabit the hearts of Cubans, as an example that continues to pave the way for the Revolution.

Santiago locals crowded the nearby Avenida Patria as they headed for Santa Ifigenia in representation of other compatriots in the Island, thus reissuing the homage ceremony held at Fidel Castro’s funeral ceremony on December 4, 2016.
