Mexico’s unemployment rate stands at 2,5% in October

Mexico City, Dec 3 (Prensa Latina) The unemployment rate in Mexico was 2,5% of the economically active population in October, lower by 0,2 percentage points compared to the same period in 2023, a specialized agency reported.

A statement from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography says the total number of unemployed citizens totaled 1,5 million, which represents a decrease of 142,000 compared to the same month a year earlier.

With original figures, the economically active population stood at 61,4 million people -a participation rate of 60,2%- and this was 317,000 higher than in October 2023.

Of the total, 59,9 million were employed (97,5%), 459,000 more than in October 2023.

Inside, it adds, the underemployed -those who declared their need and availability to work longer hours- were 5,6 million (9,4% of the employed population), which means an increase of 944,000 citizens compared to the same month a year earlier.

In October 2024 and with seasonally adjusted figures, the unemployment rate decreased by 0,2 percentage points and the underemployment rate increased by 1,4.
