Pierre Espérance, executive director of the National Network for the Defense of Human Rights, explained that the US State Department has been discussing with the CPT the future of these three members since September.
The United States has sent several delegations to Haiti, including those headed by Secretary of State Antony Blinken and diplomat Linda Thomas, among others, to learn more about the case, Espérance recalled as quoted by the digital daily Le Facteur Haiti.
What the White House demands is that the president of the CPT, Leslie Voltaire, ask Louis Gérald, Emmanuel Vertilaire and Smith Augustines to leave their posts to avoid compromising the state.
Blinken said he would sanction those opposed to the departure of those three presidential advisers, and allow them to participate in meetings for the country’s important decision-making.
Espérance confirmed that the presence of the three politicians was the reason why last Wednesday’s Council of Ministers was postponed in the face of US pressure.
