Colombian film showcase wraps up in Havana

Havana, Nov 28 (Prensa Latina) The 2nd Colombian Film Showcase in Cuba closes in this capital on Thursday. The three-day exhibition features restored movies and selected fiction, documentary, and animation films.

The billboard features the film “Mariposas Verdes” (Green Butterflies), directed by Gustavo Nieto, about bullying in school.

It also included the film “El otro hijo” (The Other Son), in the presence of its protagonist, young actor Miguel Gonzalez.

Colombian director Teresa Saldarriaga personally presented her film “Simona Amaya,” which, according to her, is “a story about war and women.”

Filmmaker Julian Diaz also presented his first film “Somos Ecos” (We Are Echoes) about the armed conflict in Colombia.

Actors and directors came to this Havana showcase as members of the Colombian delegation to share with the public their experiences and perspectives on the evolution and future of their cinematography.

The selection of films reflects the diversity and cultural richness of that South American country.

The event included a tribute to three films from Colombia’s silent movies, “Madre” (Mother), “Aura o Las Violetas” (Aura or the Violets), and “La tragedia del Silencio (The Tragedy of Silence),” which mark its 100th production anniversary in 2024.
