Cuban Vice President assesses agricultural plans in Villa Clara

Santa Clara, Cuba, Nov 27 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Vice President Salvador Valdés checked today in the central province of Villa Clara the local agricultural programs, including those that will supply food for New Year Celebrations.

Valdés stressed the need to make efficient use of resources and take advantage of the potential of biofertilizers and biopesticides, as alternatives to eliminate pests and ensure the yields of crops per hectare.

Osnay Miguel Colina, first secretary of the PCC in the province, said that local producers show their particular abilities by resorting to more resistant seed varieties and vitroplants created by the national biotechnology industry, among which he pointed out the Extradenso banana variety.

According to Yhosvany Martín, Agricultura delegate in Villa Clara, the territory has a seed program that allows to support all productions planned during the campaign, an achievement linked to the articulation of science, peasant experience and government support.

At the meeting, Valdés insisted on the importance of ensuring due contracting processes, being aware of the crops planted and their final destination, as well as taking harnessing the vantage points of controlling the land and livestock to succeed under the current difficult times.

Regarding New Year Celebrations, the Cuban vice president said that despite limitations, shortages, difficulties, and the recent damaged caused by natural disasters, food supply for the occasion must be guaranteed with proper quality.
