Ethiopia recognizes achievements of SCO

Addis Ababa, Nov 27 (Prensa Latina) Ethiopian Foreign Minister Gedion Timothewos praised the achievements of the Organization of Southern Cooperation (OSC) during the ongoing General Assembly and reaffirmed the commitment to support its mission.

The second ordinary session of the Assembly convened the member states and partners of the OSC, from November 25th to 28th, to promote a third path of development and foster a new multilateralism based on equity.

Timothewos highlighted the potential of the organization to become a crucial platform for South-South cooperation and called for collaboration with other institutions and centers of excellence to promote its objectives. “Our interests focus on encouraging peace and sustainable development. The OSC has the potential to serve as a fundamental platform to explore alliances, address challenges faced by countries in the Global South and promote equitable international cooperation and new multilateralism,” he said.

The General Assembly is the highest governing body that approves the organization’s programmatic activities, including operational performance, budget and management, a press release revealed.

The discussions will shape the future direction of the organization through the adoption of the 2025-2026 biennial program and the establishment of the International Solidarity Fund for Development, which will also mark a significant transition in the leadership of the General Assembly with the conclusion of the first presidency and the election of a new president who will serve until November 2026.

The OSC, created on January 29th, 2020 in Djibouti, is composed of 28 States from Africa, the Middle East, Latin America and the Asia Pacific, as well as civil society organizations and global and regional bodies.
