The Panama Canal Authority (ACP) said in a statement that the incident occurred the day before, when a vessel collided with the approach wall, causing no injuries or impeding traffic through the Canal, which “continued normally.”
Likewise, ACP added that the ship did not incur in visible damage and all security protocols were immediately activated as a previous step to assessing the aftermath.
The interoceanic pass has projected a record income of five thousand 623 million dollars for 2025, when the passage of some 13 thousand 900 ships with 520 million tons of cargo is expected.
The 80-kilometer Panama Canal was inaugurated on August 15, 1914, and since then more than 1.2 million vessels have sailed through it.
Its main routes join Asia with the east coast of the United States. The US, China, Japan and South Korea, are its main customers.
An estimated five percent of the world’s maritime trade goes through the Panama Canal.
