Colombia congratulates Uruguay’s Orsi for peaceful outcome in polls

Bogotá, Nov 25 (Prensa Latina) Colombia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs today congratulated Yamandú Orsi in Uruguay for his victory in presidential elections, while hailing the peaceful and democratic atmosphere in which the polls were conducted.

The official communiqué also voiced Colombia’s willingness to work with the new Government in deepening the traditional friendly ties and cooperation between the two nations.

Previously, Colombian President, Gustavo Petro, had also warmly greeted Yamandú, who won the presidency with Carolina Cosse as Vice president.

In a message on his social network X Petro said the Uruguayan candidate’s victory reflected Latin America’s aspirations of unity and change.

The final scrutiny by the Supreme Court of the Eastern Republic of Uruguay today confirmed the victory of the candidate from Frente Amplio, Yamandú Orsi, with 49.84 percent of the ballots.

The Orsi-Carolina Cosse formula gleaned one million 196 thousand 798 votes, leaving behind the million 101,296 votes for the official duo made up of former Secretary of the Presidency, Álvaro Delgado and former unionist Valeria Ripoll, who won 45.87 percent of the votes.
