Electoral Court confirms Frente Amplio’s victory in Uruguay

Montevideo, Nov 25 (Prensa Latina) The final results of the Supreme Court’s ordinary vote confirmed the victory of the candidate of the Frente Amplio (FA), Yamandu Orsi, who got 49,84% of the ballots.

The Orsi-Carolina Cosse formula added 1,196,798 votes, ahead of the 1,101,296 votes for the former secretary of the Presidency, Álvaro Delgado, and former trade unionist Valeria Ripoll, with 45,87% of the votes.

Compared to the first round, Frente Amplio increased by about six percentage points, while the others lost a point and a half from what they achieved on October 27.

The Electoral Court registered 38,478 blank votes, 64,500 nullified, and 35,761 observed.

There was a turnout of 89% of the total of just over 2.7 million eligible voters, in a country where voting is mandatory by law.

It was a decisive voting, for the Frente Amplio, in Montevideo and Canelones, the most populous of the 19 departments of the country.

It also won in the departments of San José, Paysandú, and Salto, although by a tight margin.

In the first round, the FA became the majority in the Senate and was two votes away from achieving it in the Chamber of Deputies.
