Abinader made his pledge today, escorted by his Vietnamese guest and following the signing of two memoranda of understanding, aimed at strengthening bilateral trade, technical cooperation and academic and professional exchanges.
He recalled it has been a long-cherished goal for his government to establish better relations with the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, given the many goals the two countries have in common, as their economies and industries complement each other in different manners.
The president highlighted the improvement of ties since 2021 and recalled that the Minister of Agriculture, Limber Cruz, visited Hanoi last year to strengthen technical collaboration, especially in dealing with the African swine fever, given Vietnam’s progress in this area.
Abinader added that in his meeting with Minh Chinh today, both parties showed interest in the areas of defense and telecommunications, as well as in oil exploitation and tourism.
For his part, the Prime Minister stressed that this is Vietnam’s first high-level visit to the Dominican Republic, after 20 years of the establishment of diplomatic relations, therefore “it can be considered a milestone”, he said.
Minh Chinh voiced full conviction that his stay here will lead to further development of bilateral ties.
“The two countries – he noted – have a very important geo-economic position in Latin America and Southeast Asia, respectively, high political trust and a good appreciation of friendship and solidarity,” and both are aspiring to achieve prosperity and happiness.
These similarities, Minh Chinh considered, constitute the basis for promoting bilateral relations and taking them to a new level.
Minh Chinh considered that there are many potential areas for new agreements, and cited the digital economy, telecommunications, wind and solar energy, gas, agriculture, farming and vaccine production, among others.
Minh Chinh extended an invitation to President Abinader to visit Vietnam on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
