Economic ties promoted at 17th China-LAC Summit in Nicaragua

Managua, Nov 18 (Prensa Latina) The 17th China-Latin America and the Caribbean (China-LAC) Business Summit is taking place here on Monday, focusing on sharing knowledge and the creation of strategic alliances.

At the Olof Palme Convention Center in this capital, participants debated trends in international trade, challenges and opportunities for the strategic relationship between China and Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as opportunities for new trade routes.

They also analyzed the advantages of interoceanic and multimodal transport between China and the American continent and the Caribbean; innovation in the health sector and the construction of a solid foundation for medical collaboration with this region, among other topics.

On the opening day of the meeting, Nicaragua’s presidential advisor for Investment and International Cooperation, Laureano Ortega, noted that the event, which has brought together more than 220 delegates from 29 countries, is an example of how China cooperates with the peoples of the world, especially with Latin America and the Caribbean.

“Peoples of the Global South to promote mutually beneficial cooperation, to promote trade and investments, rapprochement, exchange and peaceful coexistence among all,” he emphasized.

He pointed out that they promote work with China under the global Belt and Road Initiative implemented by China, through which the nations of the world develop important infrastructure projects that facilitate economic and commercial exchange.

The vice president of the Political Consultative Conference of China, Yang Zhen, in turn, highlighted the importance of the event and noted that his country has always valued the development of relations with the nations of this region to promote South-South cooperation.

“China will continue to pursue an opening-up strategy based on mutual benefit, promoting high-quality development and the Belt and Road Initiative… will maintain cooperation with Latin American and Caribbean countries to advance jointly in building a community of shared destiny,” he stressed.

Since 2012, China has been the second largest trading partner of Latin America and the Caribbean, and this region has become an important destination for Chinese companies to invest abroad.

Under the motto “Joining Forces, Creating Opportunities, New Horizons for China and Latin America and the Caribbean,” the trade event will run until Tuesday.
