Cuba congratulates new Laotian foreign minister

Havana, Nov 18 (Prensa Latina) The head of Cuban diplomacy, Bruno Rodríguez, congratulated Thongsavanh Phomvihane, who was officially appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs of Laos on Monday.

“We congratulate Thongsavanh Phomvihane on his appointment as Foreign Minister of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic,” Rodríguez wrote in a message on his X profile.

“We will continue to work to consolidate the fraternal bilateral relations of friendship and cooperation, which in 2024 will celebrate 50 years of their establishment,” he added.

Cuba and Laos established diplomatic relations in November 1974, but have maintained ties since long before, due to their confrontations with colonialism and neocolonialism.

on Monday, the Lao National Assembly approved the appointment of Phomvihane as the new Minister of Foreign Affairs, who also serves as head of the Foreign Relations Commission of the Central Committee of the Party.

Phomvihane was promoted on a proposal from Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone and succeeds Saleumxay Kommasith, who was reassigned to the Office of the Prime Minister.
