Senior Syrian and Russian officials denied some media reports about the reduction of Russian personnel in this area and stated that, contrary to rumors, the military deployment was reinforced through several observation points.

The deputy commander of the Russian troops in this Arab nation, General Alexander Rodionov, told the press that the Eurasian nation’s soldiers, in coordination with the Syrian Arab Army, established nine surveillance positions whose mission is to carry out reconnaissance and observation tasks by air and land.

Our regulars, who started their mission in 2015 at the request of the Syrian state, did not withdraw from any point in this region as some media spread but strengthened their presence, the officer said.

In turn, senior Syrian commanders explained that the deployment of Russian military police units improves stability and security.

The cooperation and coordination between our friendly armies, and the exchange of information and experience, strengthens security and helps people to return to their lands and exercise their normal life after the liberation from terrorism, said the officials quoted by SANA state agency.

The deployment of the Russian military included Tal Al-Ahmar and Tal Al-Hara mountains, where Syrian air defense units are located.
