In the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on the eve of the G20 Leaders Summit, both addressed regional, continental and global challenges, according to the South African Presidency’s account on the social network X.
“South Africa values the Strategic Partnership with the European Union (EU) and recognizes the contribution that it makes to South Africa’s national priorities, as provided for in the 2030 National Development Plan (PND),” said the source.
He added that the southern nation is the only African country and one of 10 worldwide that has a strategic partnership with the EU.
This Sunday, Ramaphosa also spoke with his Brazilian counterpart, Luiz Inácio Lula Da Silva, during which the two leaders expressed the desire to strengthen and deepen bilateral relations, South-South cooperation, multilateralism and the establishment of an equitable global governance system.
“The strategic partnership between South Africa and Brazil is based on democratic values, ideas and shared approaches on global, regional and interregional issues,” the South African Presidency said about the meeting.
The African nation is a member of the G20 Troika and will assume the presidency of the group on December 1, 2024, under the theme: “Solidarity, equality and sustainability.”
Ramaphosa traveled to Rio de Janeiro the day before to participate in the meeting, which will take place tomorrow and Tuesday in that Brazilian city.
South Africa considers the G20 essential for global economic coordination, as it brings together key countries to address critical issues such as trade, climate change and financial stability.
