Lopez, who became in Paris 2024 the best Olympic wrestler in history by winning the gold medal for the fifth consecutive time in Greco-Roman wrestling, will travel to Bayaguana, in Monte Plata province, on Saturday on an invitation by the City Council.
Bayaguana’s sports director Isaac Ogando announced that the City Council decided to declare Lopez an “Adopted Son of the Municipality.”
“Thank you so much to the Cuban Revolution. Welcome Mijain to a city that admires, respects, loves, and appreciates you. Welcome to Bayaguana, the capital of sports in this country,” Ogando wrote, extolling the Hall of Fame in 2023, on social media.
Mijain Lopez will also be declared on Monday a “distinguished visitor” by the Chapter Hall of the town of Bani, province of Peravia and birthplace of Generalissimo Maximo Gomez, at the request of the Foundation named after the Dominican-Cuban patriot, its president Yvan Peña informed.
He will also participate in the celebration for the 188th birthday of Gomez, one of the most admired heroes of the Cuban struggle for independence, organized by Bani’s City Council and School District.
During his stay in the Dominican Republic, Lopez will visit the Wrestling Federation and hold a meeting with athletes and coaches residing in this country.
