Antigua and Barbuda calls for more action on environmental issues

Saint John, Nov 14 (Prensa Latina) The Director of the Department of Environment of Antigua and Barbuda, Dianne Black-Layne, said that the most important thing is to move from the words to the implementation of measures to care for life on the planet.

This is about turning promises into tangible actions, Black-Layne said.

“We must be prepared, not only for storms and heat waves, but for a future in which we are no longer in a hurry, but ready to act,” the CEO stressed, as cited by the Antigua Observer.

Antigua and Barbuda is working for climate resilience through green energy and adaptive infrastructure.

To this end, the country signed important agreements, including the Global Cool Coalition Commitment and the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty, marking an important advancement in climate action.

The initiative called the Cool Coalition, is underway and aims to reduce air conditioning costs for residents and businesses by transitioning to energy-efficient cooling solutions, Black-Layne explained.

To facilitate this transition, the Government exempted from import tax the import and purchase of air conditioners by homeowners.
