A communiqué published on the Foreign Ministry’s website recalls that Rivas is being prosecuted here as co-perpetrator of the crimes of aggravated kidnapping against Reynalda Pereira, Fernando Navarro, Lincoyán Berríos, Horacio Cepeda, Juan Fernando Ortiz, Héctor Véliz and Víctor Díaz.
Our country gives high priority to the extradition of Rivas to Chile, both from a legal point of view and in the context of the persecution of human rights violations constituting crimes against humanity, the text specifies.
The Chilean government states the need for those responsible for serious crimes to be brought to justice.
Rivas, known as “La Chany”, was secretary to the director of the DINA, Manuel Contreras, and since 2019 she has been detained in Australia following a request from the Chilean justice for being co-author of the Conference 1 and 2 Cases, committed against the leadership of the Communist Party.
They were all kidnapped by the DINA between May and December 1976 and transferred to the Lautaro Extermination Brigade, where their trail was lost.
