Politicians, parliamentarians in Guatemala voice support for Cuba

Cuba-No-Esta-Sola-1-2
Guatemala City, Nov 12 (Prensa Latina) A political party in Guatemala and the Central American Parliament (Parlacen) with headquarters here joined today international voices of solidarity towards Cuba, currently besieged by natural disasters and growing US animosity.

The Guatemalan National Revolutionary Unity (URNG-MAÍZ) group reaffirmed its support for the people, the Government and the Communist Party of the island (PCC), after highlighting Cuba’s historic unity, its enduring resistance and its capacity to exemplarily respond to all adversities.

“The recent hurricane that ravaged the island and the earthquakes that shook it have added to the lethal effects of the brutal economic blockade imposed more than six decades ago by US imperialism,” said the party in a statement.

The URNG regretted the weight of all these problems on the population, but expressed confidence the PCC, the Government and the Armed Forces will overcome them all.

The political group also urged the United States to eliminate once and for all the economic, financial and commercial blockade against Cuba and remove it from the unilateral list of alleged sponsors of terrorism.

Parlacen’s Left Parliamentary Group GPI, on the other hand, echoed URGN statements, saying the spirit of struggle and resilience of Cubans remain intact despite the suffering caused by the natural disasters and US policies.

“We are with you in this time of need, hoping that the unity, solidarity and strength of the people will be the guide to overcome this difficult moment and rebuild what has been damaged,” a statement noted.
