India-Russia Intergovernmental Commission Meets

New Delhi, Nov 12 (Prensa Latina) India and Russia are assessing the collaboration between the two nations at the 25th session of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technical and Cultural Cooperation.

Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyan Jaaishankar and Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov are leading the meeting to strengthen the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership between the two nations.

As part of his visit to India, which began on Sunday, Manturov spoke with Prime Minister Narendra Modi about improving cooperation in various areas, including trade and economic ties, energy, and connectivity.

According to the official note, Modi welcomed the efforts of joint teams to implement the decisions taken during his recent visit to Russia and in meetings with President Vladimir Putin. Modi also conveyed his warm greetings to the Russian leader and confirmed his intention to continue exchanging points of view with him.

Earlier, Manturov participated in a business forum in Mumbai, India’s financial capital, where the Indian Minister of Foreign Affairs highlighted Russia’s growing rapprochement with Asia since 2022.

The Indian Foreign Minister reported that bilateral trade amounted to 66 billion US dollars, which, he noted, paves the way for the goal of reaching 100 billion by 2030.

Jaishankar also illustrated several aspects to work on to achieve this goal, such as the trade balance correction, the promotion of negotiations on trade in goods between India and the Eurasian Economic Union, and the Bilateral Investment Treaty.
