ECLAC to present report on poverty, inequality and social spending

Santiago de Chile, Nov 12 (Prensa Latina) ECLAC will present at its headquarters in Chile the Social Panorama of Latin America and the Caribbean 2024 Report, which includes the most recent statistics on poverty, inequality and spending in the region.

The central theme of this edition is to evaluate the impact of non-contributory social protection, that is, the monetary aid given to families in vulnerable situations to reduce inequalities.

The executive secretary of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), José Manuel Salazar-Xirinachs, will present the document in a hybrid format press conference.

According to the entity, the study is divided into four chapters, the first of which analyzes the behavior of poverty and income inequality indicators in a context marked by the developing crisis in the region. The second chapter will examine the challenges and opportunities of non-contributory protection systems in Latin America and the Caribbean. The third deals with care programs for population aging, while the fourth is dedicated to examining the links between institutions and social spending.

The report is extremely relevant when there are only six years left to meet the UN Sustainable Development Goals, the first of which is the end of poverty by 2030.
