Sheinbaum to propose a reduction in arms spending at G20 meeting

Mexico City, Nov 11 (Prensa Latina) Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced today that she will propose a reduction in arms spending at the next G20 summit and instead allocate those resources to help those most needed.

During her usual press conference from the National Palace, the president announced that she will present the Sembrando Vida (Sowing Life) program, promoted by her government that is focused on contributing to social welfare through the promotion of food self-sufficiency.

“What I am going to present at the G20 is mainly the Sowing Life program, the proposal is to reduce a little, just a little, spending on armament and instead of sowing wars, to sow life and peace,” she said.

In this way, she explained, improving people’s quality of life, reduce poverty, support the environment and even reduce migration.

The program implemented by the Mexican government seeks to address two problems, rural poverty and environmental degradation, with which its objectives lie in rescuing the countryside, reactivating the local economy and regenerating the social fabric of communities.

The G20 meeting made up of the 19 largest economies in the world, the European Union and the African Union will take place in Rio de Janeiro on November 18 and 19, with emphasis on issues such as the fight against hunger and poverty.
