Mexico has reduced the flow of migrants on its northern border by 76%

Mexico City, Nov 8 (Prensa Latina) The 76 percent reduction in irregular crossings compared to last December shows that the migration model implemented by Mexico is working, Foreign Minister Juan Ramón de la Fuente explained today.

The foreign minister reported that on November 5 last, 3,022 encounters of people in an irregular situation were registered, a decrease of 76 percent compared to December 18, 2023, when the historic maximum was reported.

The minister provided the data when speaking at the usual press conference of the mayor Claudia Sheinbaum.

He pointed out that a commission for comprehensive attention to this problem, made up of various institutions, coordinates actions to address migration through the Humanitarian Mobility Model.

“The President has emphasised that this is a humanitarian model, because its fundamental interest is to protect the rights of migrants and support them from their structural causes, when they are in transit, when they arrive at a destination that may be permanent or temporary, and when they wish to return,” he quoted.

Last Tuesday, when answering a journalist’s question about statements on the migration issue made by Donald Trump, now president-elect of the United States, Sheinbaum considered that sometimes in that nation there is not enough information on what Mexico has achieved on this particular issue.

The president reported yesterday on a very cordial call with Trump, in which they discussed the good relationship that will exist between the two countries.
