Search continues for 89 missing in Spain

Madrid, Nov 6 (Prensa Latina) The search for 89 missing persons is a priority in the province of Valencia, Spain, the focus of the DANA that wiped out several towns, bridges, and roads.

The devastating impact of the High-Level Isolated Depression (DANA), also known as the cold drop, left extensive material damage and 211 deaths confirmed so far in Valencia alone.

Another six deaths are counted, five in Castilla-La Mancha (four in Letur, Albacete, and one in Mira, Cuenca), as well as one in Andalusia.

Yesterday the Government declared as a Disaster Zone what happened in Valencia and the regions of Castilla-La Mancha and Andalucia, along with other affected territories, which will facilitate the arrival of financial aid.

The day before, Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, announced that a first package of 10,6 billion euros for those affected by DANA had been approved.

The government led by Sánchez will also dedicate 838 million euros to small and medium-sized businesses, and the self-employed who suffered severe damage from the DANA.

As for the aid for citizens, he indicated that it would be up to 72 thousand euros for cases of disability; between 20 thousand and 60 thousand euros for repair of damaged homes; and up to 10 thousand euros for furniture, and appliances lost or affected.

“The Government of Spain is going to pay one hundred percent of the emergency expenses of the municipalities affected by the DANA (…). Sanchez also expressed that to enter a situation of substituting the Administration of the Generalitat Valenciana would only detract from the effectiveness of the actions and response of the public authorities”.
