Haiti-bound Kenyan policemen complete training course

Port-au-Prince, Nov 5 (Prensa Latina) The Kenyan police units assigned to Haiti as part of the Multinational Security Support Mission (MMAS) are ready to confront the gangs currently harassing the population in the Caribbean nation.

The training cycle was successfully completed and was focused on the tactical part, as well as on linguistic and cultural skills, to ensure a smooth integration and efficiency in operations in Haiti.

The officers will have to interact effectively in a society where French and Haitian Creole are the languages widely used, specified the Kominotek News website.

Nairobi promised that 300 troops would arrive in November and the same number in December.

The impending arrival of a female SWAT command to Haiti has generated great expectations, amid a war against gang members, who control 80 percent of this capital and the surrounding areas.

The all-female contingent will be part of the 600 troopers that Kenya will send to the Caribbean nation.

The women in fatigues are being trained by various armed forces in various techniques of gang-fighting, according to Haitichannelnetwork.com. network.

The female SWAT, they said, is able to deal with complex situations, especially in urban areas controlled by armed groups, ensuring the protection of the civilian population.

Kenya’s president, William Ruto, said his country will deploy additional forces in Haiti, bringing the total number of police officers to two thousand by January of next year.
