Sudanese militia kills 18 civilians in retaliatory spree

Khartoum, Nov 1 (Prensa Latina) The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia killed 18 civilians in eastern Sudan, in retaliation for the desertion of one of its commanders in Gezira state, according to a social entity.

According to the Gezira Conference (GC), at least 18 people were killed by members of the RSF of General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo in the cities of Uad al Fadl, Al Fawla al Afsa, Al Nasrab and Fajr al Bashir, in the second massacre committed early this week, following a previous carnage in the village of Al Kamelin.

Members of the RSF have entered the cities, taken up positions in high buildings and fired at civilians in revenge for the defection of their commander Abu Aqla Kikil, who laid down his arms and joined the forces of the Sovereign Transitional Council (CST) of President Abdel Fattah al Burhan.

Forces of the RSF and the CST have been fighting a civil war since April last year, triggering the a 14-million-human wave, the largest refugee influx in history, and leaving 15,000 dead, almost 70,000 wounded and devastation all over this Muslim country in northeastern Africa.

The GC report denounces what it describes as a systematic campaign of genocide and forced displacement in the state of Gezira and demands urgent intervention by the international community.

Both contenders accuse each other of crimes against humanity, sexual violations, looting of property and abuses in the areas under their control.

In his statement today, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guteres condemned the RSF attacks and said he felt “horrified” by the large number of civilian casualties and people arrested or displaced by the conflagration, as well as reports of sexual abuse of women and girls, looting and other violations of International Humanitarian Law.”
