Members of the Movement of Friendship and Mutual Solidarity between the two countries, deputies, authorities of the Municipal Council of Caracas and representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in this capital, headed by the Cuban ambassador, Dagoberto Rodríguez, joyfully celebrated Cuba’s victory.
After two days of speeches by the world community against the US war policy against Havana, the United Nations General Assembly today approved with 187 votes in favor, two against and one abstention the resolution that demands the cessation of the US blockade.
Rodríguez considered the speech delivered by Cuban Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodríguez, explicit and forceful, in demonstrating the cruelty of this policy.It was “a potent message against the blockade,” he said.
He admitted that the powerful American empire can inflict damage, but “cannot block the patriotism, dignity and solidarity of a people.”
It is ripe time for solidarity, he said, and quoted José Martí, as saying that “Cuba does not go around begging.”
The Cuban ambassador thanked all those who have shown their solidarity to Cuba at different l government levels, as well as local organizations and the Venezuelan people.
To make good of the opportunity, the national coordinator of the Venezuela-Cuba Mutual Friendship and Solidarity Movement, Yhonny García, officially launched the National Solidarity Campaign “100 bs (bolivars) for Cuba” on Wednesday.
“I believe that Venezuela is now capable of providing the greatest support to those who for years have offered all their solidarity to the Venezuelan people,” he said.
The idea, he added, is to raise funds in a joint endeavor with the Havana embassy in Caracas, so that “we can help the Cuba people meet some needs at exceptional times”, reinforced by the blockade.
García told Prensa Latina that the aim is to make Venezuelans demonstrate all of their love, admiration and solidarity towards Cuban people. We are bonded by historical ties, he noted.
The Campaign will be divided into two phases: one that begins today and will end on November 25, recalling the passing of Commander Fidel Castro (1926-2016), and the other will conclude on January 1, 2025, to celebrate 66 years of the Cuban Revolution.
