Cubans await expectantly result of UN debate on US blockade

Havana, Oct 29 (Prensa Latina) Cubans remain attentive on Tuesday to the debate on the draft resolution against the economic, commercial, and financial blockade of the United States against the island nation at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

This is the 32nd time that a draft resolution against Washington’s hostility towards Havana will be debated and, as in other occasions, the overwhelming support of the participating States is expected.

In each of the previous votes, the international community expressed support for lifting the siege and other measures against the Cuban government and people.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, the 193-nation forum will examine and vote on the document presented by Cuba, which supports the reasons why this US policy, implemented for more than six decades, should be suspended.

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez leads his country’s delegation that arrived in New York to present the draft, among other things, at the 79th UNGA session.

The document presented by Rodriguez at the Cuban Foreign Ministry (MINREX) in September is officially titled “Necessity of Ending the Economic, Commercial, and Financial Blockade Imposed by the United States of America against Cuba.”

The foreign minister said then that Cuba has suffered losses worth 5.56 billion dollars between March 2023 and February 2024 as a result of the US blockade, which represents an increase of 189.8 million dollars over the previous report.
