Díaz-Canel leads tribute to Cuban revolutionary Camilo Cienfuegos

Havana, Oct 28 (Prensa Latina) President Miguel Díaz-Canel on Monday led a pilgrimage to pay tribute to Camilo Cienfuegos, one of the paradigmatic personalities of the Cuban Revolution.

On every October 28, Cubans hold processions to coast and rivers nationwide to lay flowers and pay tribute to the Commander of the Rebel Army, the Lord of the Vanguard, the Hero of Yaguajay, as Camilo Cienfuegos is remembered.

Today, thousands of students, workers and other officials accompanied Díaz-Canel on the walk to commemorate the 65th anniversary of Camilo’s death, which started at Revolution Square and finished along Havana’s seafront drive (Malecón).

During the walk, they also expressed their support for the political and governmental authorities, as occurred in all the towns throughout the country during the day.

Born in February 1932 to a low-income family settled in Havana, Camilo Cienfuegos Gorriarán was killed in a plane crash while traveling from Camagüey to Havana, after accomplishing a mission assigned by the country’s top leadership.

It was in 1959, but at the age of 27, he was already one of the most beloved revolutionary leaders by Cubans, who searched for him for several days at sea, before mourning his physical disappearance.
