The Asian nation authorities say that many managed to survive on the roofs of their homes, but were trapped there, after the killer storm left villages completely submerged.
In some places it rained in two days the equivalent of two months’ rainfall, according to Philippine meteorological experts. The floods forced almost 200,000 people to evacuate and a storm warning is still in force on the west coast this Friday.
As a result of a government decision, all offices and schools in Luzon, the largest and most important island of the Philippines, remain closed.
Tropical Storm Trami left the country this morning and is moving westward by sea, still causing rain and damaging winds.
