Through an official communiqué, Mahamat reiterated the call on the ocassion of the Day against Sanctions the Southern African Development Community declared this October 25 at its 40th Summit.
He acknowledged the engagement with the European Union through political talks and, in this regard, encouraged all parties to continue a constructive exchange with a view of removing the remaining sanctions against Zimbabwean institutions and individuals.
He expressed concern about the negative impact of continued sanctions against the African nation on socio-economic development and recovery efforts.
Mahamat reaffirmed the African Union’s full support for the actions and position taken by SADC on the issue.
The illegal and unjust measures imposed by the United States and the European Union for over two decades violate the basic human rights of Zimbabwean citizens.
