Vietnam-China defense cooperation increasingly effective

Hanoi, Oct 25 (Prensa Latina) Vietnam-China defense cooperation is becoming increasingly practical and effective, which contributes to fostering political trust and reflects the solidarity and friendship between the two parties, states and armies.

The view was shared by General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), To Lam, and Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission of China, Colonel General Zhang Youxia, who is visiting the capital of Vietnam.

Vietnam appreciates and always remembers the great help of the Communist Party, the State, the Army and the people of China in the revolutionary cause, the struggle for independence and national liberation in the past, as well as in the current enterprise of building socialism, stressed Lam. He also who also praised the progress of cooperation between the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of Defense in recent times, and suggested that the armies of both nations promote greater political trust through regular meetings and exchanges.

The official also proposed that the two sides coordinate to better control and manage disagreements, resolving them through peaceful means and in accordance with international law, thus contributing to preserving peace and stability in the region and the world.

Zhang, for his part, expressed the willingness of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army to work with the Vietnamese People’s Army to promote practical and comprehensive cooperation in all fields and areas of mutual interest.

On Thursday, the visitor held official talks with Vietnamese Minister of Defense and Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, General Phan Van Giang, who stressed that cooperation in this field is one of the important pillars that is constantly being strengthened and contributes to the realization of the common perception of senior leaders of both countries.

As a consecuence, the two sides maintain exchanges of delegations, especially at high levels, strengthen cooperation in building a border of peace, friendship, cooperation and development, and promote collaboration between the armed forces and coast guards, Van Giang said. Cooperation in such areas as education, training, strategic research, exchanges between military academies, UN peacekeeping and military medicine is also being carried out effectively, he said.

At the end of the talks, both sides signed a letter of intent to enhance defense cooperation and an agreement on cooperation in border protection.
