In a letter, the Sri Lankan group assured its adherence to the growing demonstrations of solidarity with the Cubans who are facing a complex situation. The members of the group reiterated their conviction that the Cuban people and government will overcome the current contingencies and advance their socialist cause under the leadership of the Communist Party.
The Sri Lanka-Cuba Friendship Society denounced that the situation in Cuba is mainly a consequence of the blockade imposed by the United States, and pointed out that it affects all sectors of Cuban society and has a daily impact on the lives of the population.
Regarding the energy emergency and the impact of Hurricane Oscar, the solidarity group celebrated the progress in Cuba’s recovery. This is the result of the determination and collective effort of the people, the Government and the Communist Party of Cuba, it said.
Regarding the impact of the meteorological phenomenon on the east of the country, mainly Guantanamo, the association regretted the damage suffered by local inhabitants, and recognized the work of the Revolutionary Armed Forces in the rescue and saving lives. “We value this important institution’s participation towards the population: we are sure that in the next few days they will overcome these emergencies as Cuba has always done,” the group stated.
