Los Angeles Hands Off Cuba Committee to march against US blockade

Washington, Oct 24 (Prensa Latina) The United States "Hands Off Cuba" Committee of Los Angeles announced a march for next Sunday to demand an end to the blockade, which Washington has imposed on Cuba for more than 60 years.

The peaceful demonstration will join others called in the United States and internationally that will also ask the administration of President Joe Biden to remove Cuba from the arbitrary list of countries sponsoring terrorism and allow the arrival of humanitarian aid in Cuba.

The blockade imposed by successive US Governments “has exacerbated the economic situation in Cuba by denying the island (among other things) access to oil from other countries and spare parts to repair its electrical grid,” the organization’s call stressed, in reference to the current energy emergency.

It also recalled the impact of Hurricane Oscar in recent days in eastern Cuba, which is putting pressure on Cuba’s limited resources.

“This weekend there will be international protests in more than 65 countries and 35 cities in the United States to demand the end of the blockade and Cuba’s removal Washington’s list of alleged terrorist nations,” the text added.

“The criminal blockade must end. Humanitarian aid must be allowed to reach Cuba,” the Committee concluded.

The expressions of support will precede the vote next week that will take place for the thirty-second time at the United Nations General Assembly on the Resolution on the Necessity to End the Economic, Commercial and Financial Blockade Imposed by the United States of America against Cuba.

Cuba has reported losses of more than five billion dollars from March 1, 2023, to February 29, 2024, an increase of nearly 200 million compared to the previous report, Cuban authorities warned.
