Seven Dominican provinces on alert for heavy rains

Santo Domingo, Oct 24 (Prensa Latina) Seven Dominican provinces are still on alert due to a trough over the country that since last night has caused heavy showers, thunderstorms and gusts of wind.

The Emergency Operations Center (COE) reported that these territories are Puerto Plata, Espaillat, Santiago de los Caballeros, Montecristi, La Vega, Valverde and Dajabón.

The director of the Institute of Meteorology (Indomet), Gloria Ceballos, warned that intense rainfall caused flooding in the province of Santiago de los Caballeros, where last night the Dominican Baseball League suspended the game between Estrellas and Aguilas Cibaeñas.

According to the Indomet, the bad weather will persist this Thursday in villages of the Central Mountain Range, border area and northeast, and will spread to the provinces of Monsignor Nouel, La Vega, Sánchez Ramírez, Hermanas Mirabal and Santiago Rodríguez.

The agency explained that the indirect effect of a tropical wave located in the south of the Dominican Republic is also felt.
