The city mayor Pabel Muñoz announced that this “minga,” (non-remunerated work for social benefit) will start on November 24 in sectors such as El Panecillo, Guangüiltagua Park, San Enrique Velasco, La Toglla, Santa Rosa, Carapungo, Guamani Alto Chilibulo, El Auqui, and Perla Quiteña.
The aim is to plant more than 20,000 trees in one day, hoping to have 500,000 new trees in the city by 2025, as part of the “Quito Greener Than Ever” project.
According to Muñoz, 36 private companies, eight academic institutions and 16 non-governmental organizations will contribute with inputs, labor and financial donations to make this initiative viable.
