A report published in the local Teleamazonas channel shared the figures of the National Police’s Anti-Kidnapping and Extortion Unit (UNASE), an entity according to which they have avoided paying 55.8 million dollars with 500 operations.
Additionally, data from that institution indicate that to date, more than 12,000 extortion reports have been recorded in the country.
Authorities stated that the so-called extortion kidnappings are the most recurrent modality in provinces such as Guayas and Los Rios and have become a source of income for the gangs linked to organized crime.
The leaders of the Security Bloc, integrated by the National Police and the Armed Forces, expect this Tuesday to provide details on the latest operations to curb organized crime.
