Cuba tries to protect people in Cuban municipality after Oscar

Havana, Oct 22 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel said today that authorities in Guantánamo are taking measures to protect the population in the municipality of Imías, where the situation is complex after the passage of Hurricane Oscar.

In his profile on the social network X, the president reported that he was able to communicate with the first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba in that province, Yoel Pérez, who arrived on foot to that territory cut off from communication by the floods.

Likewise, Díaz-Canel said that at 11:00 am (local time) the National Defense Council is convened to analyze the exceptional situation that the country is experiencing.

We continue to fully monitor the energy contingency and the damage caused by Oscar. The National Electric System is already recovering and Guantánamo will also recover, he said.

The day before, the Cuban head of state reported on the emergency in Imías and San Antonio del Sur, where according to preliminary data six people died as a result of Oscar’s ravages.

He assured that members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces and the Ministry of the Interior are leading rescues in those Guantanamo municipalities, where there are still inaccessible areas.

Díaz-Canel said in that message that all of Cuba is working for Guantánamo.
