India, China reach agreement on border issue

New Delhi, Oct 22 (Prensa Latina) India and China have reached an agreement on patrolling their common border, according to statements by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri.

This step marks an important pace forward in restoring relations between the two countries, according to the assessment of Press Trust of India (PTI).

Misri stated that the agreement includes monitoring the Ladakh area to ensure that no violations occur, and expressed his belief that it will lead to disengagement and the resolution of problems in that regard.

The agreement was the result of several rounds of discussions through diplomatic and military channels during the last few weeks, said the diplomat, who noted that the two parties will take further steps in this regard.

Chinese Ambassador to India Xu Feijong recently reaffirmed China’s willingness to work to promote bilateral relations on a healthy and stable path, and assured the aforementioned commitment of the Chinese government in accordance with the principle of mutual respect, understanding, trust, and mutual achievement.

Xu shared the post with a congratulatory letter sent by President Droupadi Murmu to her counterpart Xi Jinping on the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, in which Murmu advocated continuing to work for stable and peaceful ties between the two countries, as neighbors with common development challenges and regional interests.

Murmu expressed her desire to work together with Xi to carry out a mutually beneficial relationship and take advantage of the strengths of both nations for the benefit of their people, the region, and the world.

Last September, authorities in charge of national security from India and China held talks in St. Petersburg, Russia, on the common border, an important element to deepen bilateral

rapprochement.
