The head of the Department of Operations of the Civil Defense General Staff, Argenis Perales, explained forces from the Ministry of the Interior, the Revolutionary Armed Forces and the Red Cross are engaged in rescue and salvage tasks in that area.
Speaking on national television, Perales also detailed measures taken by the Civil Defense to preserve lives and material resources in Guantanamo and other eastern territories that suffered considerable damage due to the heavy rains and gusts brought by Oscar.
The director general of the Institute of Meteorology, Celso Pasos, also appeared on tv, explaining that the rains accompanying Oscar reached accumulated over 100 to 200 milliliters, subsequently causing floods.
He stressed that, although Oscar’s eye has already left the national territory, cloudy weather will continue in the eastern region, along with probabilities of intense rainfall.
