Georgian authorities denounce opposition preparations for coup

Tbilisi, Oct 17 (Prensa Latina) Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili announced that opposition parties are preparing a scenario for a constitutional coup, after the parliamentary elections on October 26th.

According to the deputy’s statement to the public broadcaster Adjara, there are all signs for such a scenario, including a previously prepared technical government that will pretend not to recognize the results of the elections. He also highlighted the presence of false conclusions prepared about the elections. “We see a pre-announced scenario of a constitutional coup and we see that these last two weeks will be active in this regard,” Papuashvili said.

Former member of the Georgian Parliament Petre Mamradze said that Western countries are giving open support to the opposition, prior to the parliamentary elections in Georgia and are applying calculated measures against the Georgian Dream ruling party.

Opposition lawmaker Roman Gotsiridze also noted that the West had decided to support the local opposition even before the Georgian parliamentary elections, which was evident during the protests against the foreign agents’ law.
